What do you need for an online lesson on Tutora?

You don't need to download anything for a lesson on Tutora. Lessons take place in Tutora's own classroom, right in your browser, on a computer or on a phone.

Here is what you'll need, and what happens before, during and after the lesson.

What you need

• A computer or a phone with a browser.
• A camera and a microphone. Most laptops and phones have both.
• Speakers or headphones.
• A stable internet connection.

There is nothing to install.

Before you join: test your camera

Before you enter the classroom, a screen lets you check your camera, microphone and speaker. If you have more than one device, this is where you choose which one to use.

On a computer you can also blur your background here. That isn't available on phones yet.

When and where you join

The join button appears five minutes before your lesson starts. You'll find it in two places: on your dashboard, next to your upcoming lesson, and in your bookings.

If you drop out, you can rejoin from the same place.

What's in the classroom

• A whiteboard for explanations and exercises.
• A chat for anything worth writing down.
• Screen sharing, from a computer.
• Files your expert shares with you. Files shared from Google Drive are view-only for you.

Tutora does not record lessons.

After the lesson

Your expert can write you a summary: what you did, your homework and what to focus on next. Once they publish it, you'll find it in your Passport.

When you're ready, browse the experts and pick the one whose profile and times suit you best.

Can I join from my phone?

Yes, the classroom works on a phone. Background blur and screen sharing are only available on a computer.
